StreamLayer’s Gamification platform brings fans closer to the action — enabling viewers to play along with polls, trivia, and prediction questions synced to the video for a unified “Watch and Play" experience. Through timely and relevant in-game interactive prompts, StreamLayer’s Gamification drives view times, peer-to-peer invites, and retention.

Prompts:

Polls, Trivia and Predictions are surfaced through the same mechanisms in StreamLayer Studio — each can be activated via various different trigger mechanisms (automated via time triggers and event triggers, or manual). These can be synced to game action to prevent spoilers and capitalize on exciting in-game action.

• Polls are a way to gauge the opinion of the viewer audience during the action. Who will score next? Who is going to win the game? Will the player miss the next shot?
• Trivia questions are multiple choice questions with only one right answer. Who has the most points so far this season? Which player won the league MVP last year?
• Predictions are a way for viewers to anticipate outcomes of future play. Where polls are a taking the pulse of the community, predictions allow you to guess who is going to get closest to the pin? Who will win the hole? Who will score the next run?

Points and Leaderboards:

Points can be awarded for correct trivia and prediction questions, and users can track their performance against all other players in the stream — or just against their friend group. If desired, MLB.TV can utilize the leaderboard and StreamLayer’s reporting to award prizes and rewards for top players.

Peer-to-Peer Invites:

One key benefit of StreamLayer’s gamification feature is the ease with which users can invite friends to play along. With a simple tap of a button they can copy an invite into their messaging platform, and a recipient will be routed to the app store or directly into the game. Client activations have seen encouraging viral growth of downloads, registrations, and dwell time.

Using the feature - step by step

Step 1 - Choose to play and review the rules

Step 2 - Click a question to play

Step 3 - Make your selection and view other fans' selections and the right answer.

Step 4 - For prediction questions, receive a results notification when the prompt is resolved

Step 5 - Access the scorecard to track progress against your friends by locating the 'Games' sub-menu option or clicking the trophy icon with your points total.
